2016-2017 Studio Calendar

*If you have a Monday lesson and there is a holiday on Monday, the lesson will be moved to the Tuesday immediately after the holiday (unless otherwise noted).

September:

•    Lessons begin the week the first week of September {week of Sept 5 – Sept 9}.

•    Labor Day - Monday, September 5th ==> Studio is closed. Monday lessons will be on Tuesday, Sept 6th.

October:

•    Wed, Oct 5^th lessons à changed to Tuesday, Oct 4th

•    Mon, Oct 10^th – Columbus Day à no piano (lessons will be held on THURS, OCT 13^TH)

November:

•    Nov 21-25 is Thanksgiving Break.  No regular lessons.

•    Monday, Nov 21^st – FALL SEMESTER Make-up Lessons.

•    Solo pieces MUST be memorized by last week of Nov.

December:

•    FUN Class – Friday, Dec 9^th 4:45 pm

•    Recital Rehearsal – Saturday, Dec 17^th 9 – 10 am

•    Christmas Recital – Sunday, Dec 18^th 3:30 pm

•    Dec 23 begins Christmas Break

January:

•    Lessons begin 2nd week of January {week of Jan 9-13}

•    Monday, Jan 16th is MLK Day (no school). Monday lessons will be on Tuesday, Jan 17th.

February:

March:

•    Studio closed for Spring Break: March 13-17

April:

•    Thurs, April 20^th – SPRING SEMESTER Make-up Lessons.

•    Solo pieces MUST be memorized by last week of April

May:

•    FUN Class – Friday, May 12^th 4:45 pm

•    Recital Rehearsal – Saturday, May 20^th 9 – 10 am

•    Spring Recital – Sunday, May 21^st Time TBD

•    Last week of lessons - May 22-26

Practice Sheet 2016-2017

I am rolling out a new Practice Log system for this school year.  There will be this one page in the front of each student's binder.  At the top is your child's name and amount of practice suggested/required for the week.  Your child will need to have a timer near the piano (use a phone or kitchen timer) so they can fill out their sheet.  If they reach their goal (i.e. practice 20 minutes and their goal is 20 minutes), they will completely fill in that bubble.  If they only practice 15 (of the 20 minutes), then 3/4 of the bubble will be filled in.  

 

Before they return to their lesson, they will need a parent's initial (or nanny/caretaker who hears them practice) in order to receive credit for the week of practice.  

The other new portion of this practice log is that each student must have at least 20 week of practice filled out (with the goal achieved and parent initials) to qualify for a trophy in May.  

I want to empower my students to make time to practice each week.  I try to set really reasonable goals for each student, but if you feel like the goal is not attainable - please talk with me about it so we can find a goal that is attainable. Practice goals are meant to encourage and not to discourage.  I need your help to make this happen so please let me know if you have questions!
